COMM 176: Intercultural Communication
Chapter 5 explores the topic of culture shock - the stress and disorientation people experience when in a new culture. Both the stages of culture shock and ways to alleviate culture shock are examined.
To Do This Week:
1. Watch these videos
This BBC short video describes how cultures around the world peceive and use time. This video is related to information covered earlier in the course regarding time, and ties it into issues of culture shock..

2. Read Chapter 5
You should read the chapter before completing Discussion Board entries or completing an online exam. It is suggested that you complete the Chapter 5 Guide while reading the chapter.
3. Complete the chapter guide
You should complete the chapter guide while you are reading the chapter. You can find Chapter Guides by clicking the "Chapter Guides" button on our main Black board page. Chapter Guides are for your own personal use and should not be turned-in to the instructor.
4. Make posts on the Discussion Board
Make one Original Post and two Reply Posts on the Discussion Board.
To keep discussion varied and lively, each student has been assigned to a group by last name. To find out which group you are in, click on the "Disc. Board" button above. Please remember your group. You will remain in this group for the duration of the semester.
You must follow all the Discussion Board Guidelines in order to earn all the points possible on this assignment. Click "Disc. Board" link to review guidelines.
5. Take the Chapter 5 Exam
You can access the exam by clicking on the "Exams" button on our main Bb page.
The exam must be completed by the exam deadline -- next Monday at noon.
If you do not finish the exam by the deadline, you will not be allowed to make it up.
