COMM 176: Intercultural Communication

Welcome to
COMM 176: Intercultural Communication

The first week of class will be used to orient yourself to the course and the study of intercultural communication. 

Please read the list below and complete each assignment by the deadline listed.

This textbook is available through the SWC Bookstore. You may also choose to look for this textbook elsewhere (e.g., Otay Books, Half.com, or Amazon.com and other sources).

An electronic version of this textbook is available through the publisher at http://www.coursesmart.com. Use ISBN: 9780199739790 to locate it.

It is important that you purchase the 2nd edition of the textbook. The earlier edition of the textbook contains substantial differences from the current one. Also, all tests will be based on information in the 2nd edition.

3. Familiarize yourself with the course

If you cannot locate specific information or a link does not seem to work properly, contact your instructor asap by clicking the "Contact" button above.

4. Take the Syllabus Quiz

On the main Blackboard (Bb) page, click the button labeled "Exams, Tests, and Quizzes" and follow the directions on the screen. You may take the quiz as many times as you like (until you earn 100%).

The Syllabus Quiz is worth 10 points (extra-credit).

This quiz is due 9/8 at noon. After that, the quiz will be unavailable.

5. Take the Pre-Test

The Pre-Test is located in the section labeled "Exams, Tests, and Quizzes"on the main Bb page.

This Pre-Test is worth 10 points. 

Don't worry about "right" or "wrong" answers. If you follow the rules when answering questions in the Pre-Test , you can earn all 10 points.

To earn all 10 points, you must:
  1. Select one of the 4 options listed; and
  2. Justify/explain why you selected a particular option in paragraph form.

This Test is due 9/8 at noon. After that, the test will be unavailable.
